Carol Gaustad has been a practicing artist for over 35 years. After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls in 1978 with a B.A. in art education, she taught elementary art for 34 years in the Howard- Winneshiek and the Decorah Public Schools, retiring in 2014.
Carol enjoys exploring the juxtaposition of colors, color layers and nuances through the mediums of watercolor, oil painting, pastels, and silk paintings. Her favorite themes include figures in natural settings, floral still life and the changing seasons of the beautiful northeast Iowa landscape.
A long time member of Northeast Iowa Studio Tour, Carol shows her work in local exhibits throughout the year. Her work has also been featured in several area galleries, including Agora Arts, The Perfect Edge, McGregor-Marquette Center for the Arts, and the Bluff Country Gallery in Spring Grove, Minnesota.
Carol Gaustad resides in rural Decorah with her husband Gordon. They have one daughter, Emily who lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
