Moving to Skagway, Alaska in 1974, Casey established Taiya River Jewelry in 1976 and began creating natural gold nugget jewelry. Marcia Cook joined him in 1997 and together they operated Taiya River Jewelry until 2012 when they moved to Decorah, Iowa.
Casey was a charter member of the Alaska Metal Arts Guild and is a past member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. He is also a retail member of the American Gem Trade Association.
Casey creates jewelry pieces in 18 Karat Gold combined with natural gold nuggets, diamonds, or colored stones. His favorite material is raw, natural gold nuggets. The small gold nuggets are soldered to karat gold to create unique patterns and textures.
Casey believes jewelry should be wearable and durable. A jewelry piece should be enjoyed for generations.
